Drain

Drain

It’s not easy to stay on track when you are on the road traveling for business.

In the comforts of our home, in our familiar “1st space” that is so recognizable, it is almost as if we are on cruise control.  We get up, take a shower, drive to work, eat lunch, come home and then do it all over again.

But when we are on the road, whether we realize it or not, our routine changes and we become tired, run down, and sometimes even sick.

This is why we have to do what a real Christian Business Man would do, and act even better than we would do at home while out on the road for business so that we don’t get that dreaded energy drain.

When I travel I always try to eat better than I would if I was home.  Specifically, I usually try to always eat some type of fish (at least once a day).   I don’t want to load up on a bunch of idle carbs that end up dragging me down the rest of the night.  I also eat only the most nutritious snacks, even stopping at the grocery store when I land if I am going to be in the city for several days to purchase REAL food, not junk.  Things like carrots, bananas, apples, raisins, snack bars, almonds, beef jerky, etc.  That way, when I am in the hotel room (or in a customer meeting if I remembered to put something in my work bag!), I will be reaching for something that is not going to drain my energy, but actually GIVE me an energy boost.

I also exercise at least 30 minutes every day.  I make it a non-negotiable.  This may seem like a no-brainer, but how many times have you said “I’m going to go to the exercise room for sure” and never make it there because of a distraction or something else “coming up”? It has happened to all of us at least once.

For me TV is something that never gets turned on.  It distracts me too much, and it is way too easy for me to float into watching something that I don’t even need to be watching.

Finally, I try not to sit in front of the computer all night either.  That is usually my downfall though, because I will end up sitting there until I fall asleep – reading blogs, checking sports scores or surfing the web.

Well what DO I recommend?

Relaxing.

Turning on some good music.

Reading a book (or how about the Bible?!)

Getting a good night sleep.

Doing something that will be productive and that makes you a better person.

Psalm 121 7-8

The Lord will protect you
and keep you safe
from all dangers.
 The Lord will protect you
now and always
wherever you go.

What do you do so you don’t get drained when you travel?
