Garbage in, Garbage out

What are you putting into your mind these days?  What have you been reading, listening to, or watching on TV as of late?

Everything we put in usually comes out… in some way or another.

I used to listen to rap music a lot, especially growing up (yes it’s true I really did!).  I really didn’t pay much attention to the words they were saying, but I really liked the beats, that is what really got me all hyped up.

Well, after a while, as the music started to evolve, I would sometime notice that the rappers went from talking about “being the winning MC” to things that were more like “shootin the cops ‘cause he chases me all night”.

Needless to say, this type of talk going into my head was not a good thing.  It comes out – and did come out – in many others ways.  I was sometime disruptive and destructive as a youth, but it could also come out today for many of us in the form of being rude to the attendant at the parking lot because we had to wait in line to exit, or being aggressive while driving because the person in front of us is just “going to slow!”, or slamming the door in the face of a co-worker because we didn’t like what they were saying in the meeting we just left.

It all comes back around.

I have since done away with listening to questionable music (I still like the beats though!).  I don’t watch movies that are rated R.  I don’t watch TV shows that have shady material in them.  My wife helps protect me by intercepting any mail that may have suggestive images on it.  I make sure I have safeguards in place so that I don’t go to the wrong websites on the internet.

I leave the garbage out.

God has honored this too.  And He will honor your diligence, your effort, and your commitment in this tenant if you just try.

And you will notice a difference too.

The next time you are at the water cooler, you will see things in a different light once you take the pollution out of your mind that was there so regularly.  You won’t believe how other people are talking to each other, how rude they are, how disrespectful they seem.

Your rose-colored glasses will be off, and you will begin to see the world in a whole new light.

Real Christian Business Men are set apart from others when they leave the garage out of their minds and focus only on the good things.

Phil 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

There is a reason He wrote about this in the Bible.

“…think about such things.”
